Under Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 (Section 21):
  1. To analyze the samples of water & submitted under section 21 by the officer empowered by the Board and to communicate to the Board the result of such analysis or test.
  2. To analyze or test such samples of Water and to communicate the results of the Board.

 

Under Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 (Section 26):
  1. To analyze the samples of Air or emission & submitted under section 26 by the officer empowered by the Board and to communicate to the Board the result of such analysis or test.
  2. To analyze or test such samples of Air or emission and to communicate the results.

 

Under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (Section 11):
  1. To evolve standardized methods for analysis of various types of environmental pollutants.
  2. To analyze samples sent by the Government or the officers empowered under Sub-section(1) of Section 11.
  3. To carry out such investigations as may be directed by the Central Government to lay down standards for the quality of environment and discharge of environmental pollutants, to monitor and to enforce the standards laid down.
  4. To send reports regarding its activities to the Central Government. To carry out such other functions as may be entrusted to it by the Central Government periodically.
